The Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists Weighs in on the Surging Number of Hair Transplants Worldwide

The Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists (, a Toronto-based organization offering hair loss treatment for over 25 years, is weighing in on the increasing number of patients seeking hair transplants.

According to health-based search engine, U.K. hair loss clinics have seen a 165% surge in searches since 2014, with one in 10 searches being performed by individuals aged 18 to 24. This is three times the amount of similar searches done a year ago. (Source: “Bald facts reveal web interest in hair loss treatment as clinics seek new scalps,” Belfast Telegraph, July 17, 2015;

“These numbers aren’t particularly surprising,” says Ken Robson, Founder of the Canadian Institute of Hair and Scalp Specialists. “Clinics around the world have been reporting increased interest in recent years, including here in Canada.” also claims that there has been an increase of 230% in inquiries regarding clinics overseas, with some of the popular destinations being Poland, India, and Turkey. In 2014, 36,000 patients from the U.K. alone journeyed to these destinations seeking affordable hair transplants. In addition, hair clinics in India have reported a massive spike in patients seeking surgery with an increase of 594%.

“While travelling overseas for a hair transplant has grown in popularity in recent years, once airfare, accommodations, and other costs are added to cost of the procedure, it’s much more affordable to go to a local clinic,” Robson concludes. “Plus, with the aftercare, it’s better to be able to drive home following the procedure instead of spending hours on a plane.”

In business since August 1, 1986, I am the president and also a client at The Canadian Institute of Hair & Scalp Specialists. Having worked with a team of Doctors and Chemists over the years I have compiled a great deal of knowledge in this area, originally involved with a Pharmaceutical company manufacturing vitamins for the hair loss industry. Years ago I was fascinated by the new developments in this area as my own hair was beginning to thin. Studying Trichology at the Toronto clinic I then opened my own office and have enjoyed it ever since.
